Julie Goulet BSc, MSc, PhD

Naturopathe, Doctor of nutrition
Member of ANPQ

I am mother of three young children and passionate about health and nutrition. I hold a Bachelor's degree, a Master's degree and a PhD in nutrition from Université Laval, Québec. As far as I can remember I always had a global vision of human beings and wanted to understand how best to apply my knowledge to help people. This desire combine with the fact that I have children with multiple allergies drove me to seek a way to find a better state of health. From that point on I opened myself to alternative approaches and sought options by doing research in the literature available. Through my research I discovered how naturopathy and bioenergy could answer my questions. For me and my family it meant to find balance again and get the control on our health back. After working in research for 15 years, I have decided to return to clinical practice, but this time as a naturopath. Today, I unite my greatest passions and knowledge –nutrition and naturopathy - to help people regain their balance in different stages of their lives. I welcome you with openness and compassion.

I am member of the Association des Naturopathes Professionnels du Québec (ANPQ).

People often ask me to explain my 180 degree career change. How can a researcher, trained in the critical spirit of conventional medicine do happen to be interested in approaches considered unscientific? Being precisely a researcher I leave nothing aside and I do not hesitate to search for better understanding.

From childhood, human fascinated me. Already at the elementary school, I told anyone who would listen that one day I would be a health professional. So I took the traditional path by doing a Bachelor's degree in nutrition at Université Laval, Québec. I wanted to understand the interactions between foods and what made a person healthy or not. Having the feeling that my training was incomplete, I undertook Master’s and PhD studies. These studies have always pushed me to learn more, understand how and what, but above all I learned to never take anything for granted. One day a great researcher said "Julie, the body never act without reason. He is still trying to find his balance on his way". Years later, this sentence is still in my head and whenever a problem arises I put it into practice.

After my graduated studies, my health deteriorated and my allergies reached an unprecedented level. Two of my children have several allergies; pollen, animals, foods, etc. Having tried everything the traditional medicine had to offer, I turned to alternative medicine. I was amazed, and still am, to see how the body has the ability to heal when given the chance. What a revelation for the scientist in me!

So I returned to study and looked at the literature with an open mind. That's what I’ve been doing for the last 10 years. Ten years to learn, but to unlearn. Although I was suspicious at first I can only see how a functional approach can bring a lot to one self. It finally allowed me to better understand the relationship between nutrition and the human body. I am now more convinced than ever of the impact of diet on human health and its imbalances. Finally, after all these years I realized that I hadn’t studied for nothing!
